Welcome to your home away from home

Meet the Hosts

Emily and Odiwuor are the heart of this experience. Their home on Mfangano Island is not a guesthouse created for visitors, but a real family home that has naturally become a place of welcome for people from different parts of the world. They live a simple, grounded life shaped by the lake, the land, and strong community ties.

Emily brings warmth and care into every detail of the home, from shared meals to the small comforts that make guests feel settled and at ease.

Odiwuor is deeply connected to the island and its people, with a natural gift for storytelling and guiding visitors through the hills, villages, and everyday rhythms of life on Mfangano.

Staying with Emily and Odiwuor means being welcomed as a guest, not treated as a customer. Days often begin together, with conversation, tea, and plans made at an unhurried pace. Guests are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the daily routine - learn a bit about the local way of life and see the island through the eyes of the people who actually live there.

Their approach is quiet and genuine. There are no performances, no staged experiences, just honest hospitality, shared time, and mutual respect. Many guests leave feeling less like they stayed somewhere, and more like they were part of something.

Emily and Odiwuor’s home is a real haven of peace, calm and connection. For a lot of people who stay with them its pretty much the highlight of their whole trip to Lake Victoria.

Our hope is simple. To share Mfangano Island as it truly is. To create space for meaningful time, honest connection, and travel that feels human. When you leave, we hope you carry a piece of the lake with you, and that you know you’ll always be welcome back.
